• 1956 - No. 1 of the journal Morfologia Normala si Patologica (Normal and Pathologic Morphology), Medical Publishing House, Bucharest, appeared with "Uniunea Societatilor de Stiinte Medicale din Romania" (The Union of The Societies of Medical Sciences from Romania) and "Revista a Societatii de Morfologie Normala si Patologica" (Journal of The Society of Normal and Pathologic Morphology) as subtitles. In chronological order, editors-in-chief were Prof. Dr. I. T. Niculescu, Prof. Dr. Emil C. Craciun, Acad. V. D. Marza and Prof. Dr. E. Repciuc.
• 1964-1973 - Volumes I-X of Revue Roumaine d'Embryologie et de Cytologie [Rev Roum Embryol Cytol], Academy of Medical Sciences, Romanian Academy Publishing House, Bucharest, appeared. The journal contained two parts: Serie d'Embryologie and Serie de Cytologie.
• 1974 - Volume XX of Revue Roumaine de Morphologie et de Physiologie [Rev Roum Morphol Physiol], ISSN 0377-4953, Academy of Medical Sciences, Romanian Academy Publishing House, Bucharest, appeared through the fusion between Revue Roumaine de Morphologie et d'Embryologie, ISSN 0377-4945 (Editor-in-chief Acad. V. D. Marza) and Revue Roumaine de Physiologie, ISSN 0035-399X. The papers were published in English, French and German. After one year, Rev Roum Morphol Physiol separated in two publications: Morphologie et Embryologie and Physiologie.
• 1975 - Volume XXI of Morphologie et Embryologie (Morphology and Embryology) [Morphol Embryol (Bucur)], ISSN 0377-5038, Academy of Medical Sciences, Romanian Academy Publishing House, Bucharest, appeared with the following subtitles: "Revue Roumaine de Morphologie, d'Embryologie et de Physiologie" and "Romanian Journal of Morphology, Embryology and Physiology". Acad. V. D. Marza was editor-in-chief. The papers were published in English or French. The journal appeared quarterly.
• 1990 - Volume XXXVI of Romanian Journal of Morphology and Embryology (Revue Roumaine de Morphologie et Embryologie) [Rom J Morphol Embryol (Rev Roum Morphol Embryol)], ISSN 1220-0522, Academy of Medical Sciences, Romanian Academy Publishing House, Bucharest appeared. Editors-in-chief were, in chronological order: Acad. V. D. Marza and Prof. Dr. P. G. Nicolescu. The papers were published in English or French. The journal was quarterly.
• 1998 - Rom J Morphol Embryol (Rev Roum Morphol Embryol) discontinued its existence with volume XLIV no. 3-4.
• 2004 - Starting with volume XLV, cumulative no. 1999-2004, the journal continued under the same name. Editor-in-chief is Prof. Dr. Laurentiu Mogoanta. Indexing was resumed, by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), PubMed, MEDLINE, Index Medicus and SJR.
• 2005 - A new series begins, starting with volume 46 no. 1, the journal keeping only the English name (Rom J Morphol Embryol), to which the following subtitle was added: Journal of The Romanian Society of Morphology. The journal appears four times a year, under the auspices of The Academy of Medical Sciences, The Romanian Society of Morphology and The Research Center for Microscopic Morphology and Immunology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova. Rom J Morphol Embryol was indexed as "B+" by CNCSIS/NURC (National University Research Council).
• 2008 - Starting with volume 49 no. 1, Rom J Morphol Embryol is indexed by Clarivate Analytics (ISI Master Journal List, Science Citation Index Expanded) and registered in the "A" category by the NURC.
• 2009 - Our new website became http://www.rjme.ro. The National Library of Romania, National ISSN Center, reconfirmed the ISSN for the printed version of the journal. Also, an online ISSN was solicited and approved. Rom J Morphol Embryol resumed indexing in Scopus/Embase (Elsevier).
• 2010 - Starting with volume 51 no. 1, Rom J Morphol Embryol is indexed in Index Copernicus. Rom J Mophol Embryol mark was registered by the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks, after publication in the Official Bulletin of Industrial Property No. 2/2010.
